United Soybean Board Seeks Nominations
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) is requesting nominations to fill 16 member vacancies and one alternate vacancy on the United Soybean Board. The deadline for all Georgia producer nominations is Friday, April 20, 2018.
Under section 1969 of the Soybean Promotion, Research, and Consumer Information Act (7 U.S.C. 6301 et. seq.), the Georgia Soybean Commodity Commission is qualified to nominate soybean producers to serve on the board. Georgia has one representative on the board, and AMS is also accepting nominations to fill one alternate vacancy.
Current members and alternates are eligible for an additional term, except those who will complete three consecutive 3-year terms in December 2018.
Any soybean producer within Georgia who owns or shares the ownership and risk of loss of soybean production is eligible for nomination. A soybean producer must be nominated by a Qualified State Soybean Board (QSSB), and in Georgia, the QSSB is the Georgia Soybean Commission. Once nominated by the QSSB, the USDA will select appointees from the nominated producers.
Georgia soybean producers who would like to be considered for nomination to the United Soybean Board should contact Georgia Department of Agriculture Commodity Promotions Manager, Andy Harrison, at andy.harrison@agr.georgia.gov or Secretary to the Georgia Soybean Commodity Commission, Billy Skaggs, at gasoybean@gmail.com. Please submit all nominations by Friday, April 20, 2018.
