ATLANTA, GA – Today, the Georgia Department of Agriculture announced that Georgia apple producers have voted to continue the Georgia Apple Commission Marketing Order for an additional three years.
Under the renewed marketing order, the assessment rate may be adjusted from the current two cents per marketed bushel to a range of two to four cents per marketed bushel. Prior to the start of this year’s apple season, the five members of the Georgia Apple Commission established a final assessment rate of three cents per marketed bushel. This rate will take effect upon notification to applicable producers.
Established by the Georgia General Assembly in 1962, the Georgia Apple Commission is one of the state’s oldest agricultural commodity commissions. Funds collected by the Commission support education, promotion, and research initiatives related to Georgia apples.
Marketing Orders are reviewed and voted on by producers every three years to ensure continued support for the Commission’s mission and programs.
