ATLANTA, GA — Today, Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J Harper is, again, encouraging Georgia pet owners and livestock producers to protect their animals as more extremely hot weather approaches our state. With heat indeces expected to reach triple digits through the weekend and into early next week, the risk of heat stress for animals is extremely high. Georgians should ensure their pets and livestock have ample water and shade throughout the coming days.
“With more extremely hot weather approaching our state, it is going to be critical to ensure our pets and livestock have plenty of shade and water over the next few days,” said Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J Harper. “Extreme heat can be deadly for animals, and I strongly encourage all Georgians take steps to protect their pets and livestock this weekend and into next week.”
The Georgia Department of Agriculture recommends providing ample shade, fresh water, and minimizing outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day.
