The Retail Food Program has three districts designed to support the customer service needs of Georgians operating, or frequenting food sales establishments, such as grocery stores and convenience stores.
Food Safety Inspectors conduct random and unannounced inspections of food sales establishments that are licensed by GDA. These establishments mainly include retail grocery stores and convenience stores. Inspectors also take product samples for analysis by the GDA laboratories.
Beyond their routine inspections, inspectors look into consumer complaints and check for compliance with recalls. They also supervise the destruction of products that have been deemed unwholesome in Georgia. They may also follow up on truck wrecks, natural disasters, and fires to ensure foods that enter commerce are safe and wholesome.
