ACTION: Notice of Intent to Consider the Adoption of Amendments to Meat Inspection – Meat Processing Rules

TO ALL INTERESTED PERSONS AND PARTIES:

Pursuant to the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, O.C.G.A. § 50-13-4 and O.C.G.A. § 26-2-80, notice is hereby given that the Georgia Department of Agriculture will be accepting written comments regarding the adoption of amendments to Rules 40-10-1-.01, 40-10-1-.04, and 40-10-1-.20 relating to Meat Inspection – Meat Processing. The Department will be accepting written comments from October 1, 2018 to close of business (4:30 p.m. EST) on October 31, 2018.

SYNOPSIS, MAIN FEATURES AND DIFFERENCES:

The Department is proposing to amend its Meat Inspection – Meat Process rules to be consistent with recent changes by the United States Department of Agriculture to the Code of Federal Regulations. Specifically, the Department is proposing the following amendments:

  1. The Department is proposing to amend Rule 40-10-1-.01 by adding Title 9 Code of Federal Regulations, Chapter III, Part 431 to the rules and regulations for mandatory meat inspection.
  2. The Department is proposing to amend Rule 40-10-1-.04 by removing the last sentence in paragraph (1)(f) relating to trichina.
  3. The Department is proposing to amend Rule 40-10-1-.20 by removing the requirements contained in paragraph (10) relating to trichinae and reserving the paragraph number.

COMMENT PERIOD AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The Department will be accepting written comments from October 1, 2018, to close of business (4:30 p.m. EST) on October 31, 2018. Comments will be considered on November 1, 2018. Please submit written comments to:
