Subway Restaurants of North Georgia and Georgia Grown Establish Partnership

Consumers wanting fresh, locally grown produce on their sandwiches need look no further than their local Subway restaurant this summer. Subway and Georgia Grown announced an unprecedented partnership to promote Georgia Grown sandwich toppings in four Georgia markets: Atlanta, Northeast Georgia, Albany and Columbus.

“We are very excited to have this opportunity to partner with Georgia’s largest restaurant chain,” said Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Gary W. Black. “This promotional campaign exemplifies what the Georgia Grown program is and can be. The brand has the power to bridge that gap of what the consumers want and what the farmer is already offering – wholesome, local products produced right here in Georgia.”

Subway restaurants buy more than 8 million pounds of Georgia grown tomatoes, cucumbers and green peppers each year. The Georgia Grown partnership is a way to communicate Subway’s commitment to sourcing local produce.

“At SUBWAY®, we always strive to serve the freshest ingredients we can,” said Joe Hart, regional Development Agent and longstanding SUBWAY® franchisee. “We’re proud to be serving locally grown cucumbers, green peppers and tomatoes during the local growing seasons, and to be supporting Georgia farmers and the local economy.”

Subway will support the Georgia Grown campaign with point-of-sale displays, billboards, and TV and radio ads. Shannon Wilson of Carter and Sons Produce says the impact of the partnership will go a long way in validating what they do every day.

“It is really humbling to know that the tomatoes from a small operation like ours has the opportunity to be on a sandwich that is being fed to consumers in one of the most popular restaurants in the country,” Wilson said.

Georgia Grown and Subway will kick off their summer-long partnership during a media event on Thursday, May 12th at 9:30 a.m. at the Subway on 4511 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd., Atlanta, 30338. Commissioner Black and Joe Hart will be in attendance to discuss the collaboration and enjoy some fresh, Georgia grown produce.
