Subway Restaurants of North Georgia and Georgia Grown Establish Partnership
Consumers wanting fresh, locally grown produce for their sandwiches need look no further than their local Subway restaurant. SUBWAY® and Georgia Grown are in the midst of an unprecedented partnership to promote Georgia Grown sandwich toppings in the Georgia markets of Macon, Columbus, Albany and Valdosta, as well as the Florida market of Tallahassee and the Alabama markets of Montgomery and Dothan. Georgia Grown and Subway partnered on a similar campaign in the Atlanta and Northeast Georgia markets earlier this summer.
“We are very excited to have this opportunity to partner with Georgia’s largest restaurant chain,” said Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Gary W. Black. “This promotional campaign exemplifies what the Georgia Grown program is and can be. The brand has the power to bridge that gap of what the consumers want and what the farmer is already offering – wholesome, local products produced right here in Georgia.”
Subway restaurants buy more than eight million pounds of Georgia grown tomatoes, cucumbers and green peppers each year. The Georgia Grown partnership is a way to communicate Subway’s continued commitment to sourcing local produce. Subway will support the Georgia Grown campaign with point-of-sale displays, billboards, and TV and radio ads.
“We are so excited to be able to partner with an program like the Georgia Department of Agriculture’s Georgia Grown and be able to tell our guests that SUBWAY® restaurants do everything they can to get produce that is locally sourced,” said Stacy Kader with SUBWAY® Restaurants. “All of our franchisees across Alabama, Florida and Georgia are proud to display the materials that showcased the peppers, cucumbers and tomatoes that are grown in Georgia.”
Grower Shannon Wilson with Carter and Sons Produce says the impact of the partnership further validates what they do every day.
“It is really humbling to know that the tomatoes from a small operation like ours has the opportunity to be on a sandwich that is being fed to consumers in one of the most popular restaurants in the country,” Wilson said.
Georgia Grown and Subway will discuss their historic partnership during a media event during the Sunbelt Ag Expo in front of the Georgia Agriculture Building on Tuesday, October 18 at 3:00 p.m.
