Georgia Cotton Farmers Participate in National Leadership Program

Georgia cotton farmer and ginner Matt Coley has been selected to the 2015-16 class of the National Cotton Council’s (NCC) Emerging Leaders Program. Past participants from Georgia include Chad Mathis from Arlington and Lee Cromley from Brooklet. Now in its third year, the NCC’s Emerging Leaders Program is supported by a grant to The Cotton Foundation from Monsanto.

The Emerging Leaders Program provides participants with an in-depth look at how the NCC carries out its mission of ensuring the U.S. cotton industry can effectively and profitably compete in markets at home and abroad. Program participants will be exposed to a variety of different issues ranging from the U.S. cotton industry infrastructure and the U.S. political process to the development of new export markets for U.S. cotton. The Emerging Leaders Program also focuses on professional development and communications training for the participants.

Coley is cotton farmer from Vienna. He and his family also operate Coley Gin and Fertilizer which has been in operation since 1945. Coley is a graduate of The University of Georgia with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Agricultural Economics. Prior to returning to the family farm and agribusiness, Coley worked on agriculture issues for U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss in the senator’s Washington D.C. office. Coley serves on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Cotton Commission and also as an advisor to the Board of Directors of the NCC.
