Georgia Cotton Commission 8th Annual Meeting a Success
On January 28, 2015 the Georgia Cotton Commission held its 8th Annual Meeting at the UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center. The Board of Directors were very pleased with the event and would like to thank all of the event sponsors, speakers, and attendees. There were 380 in attendance at the event.
The program speakers were Ronnie Lee, President of Southern Cotton Growers, who brought an update on their activities in the past year; Mark Messura, Senior Vice President of Global Marketing at Cotton Incorporated, gave producers and overview of the Cotton LEADS program; and John Maguire, Senior Vice President of the National Cotton Council, spoke about the current issues in Washington D.C. Georgia Cotton Commission Chairman Mike Lucas said “we were proud to have so many farmers come to hear from our industry leaders and learn about the farmer-oriented research that producers are paying for through their per bale assessment.”
The Annual Meeting was held in conjunction with the UGA Cotton Production workshop where producers learned about new varieties, irrigation management strategies, the 2014 Farm Bill, and numerous other topics related to cotton production that are funded through Commission’s research program.
In addition to the meeting speakers and workshop presentations, cotton producers were able to visit with the meeting sponsors who provide products or support to the Georgia cotton industry.
Following lunch Georgia Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall spoke about the need for leadership and some of the challenges Georgia farmers will face in the future.
Those who were not able to attend the Annual Meeting and UGA Cotton Production workshop can access archived footage of the presentations on YouTube.
