Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture Gary W. Black Applauds USDA Nominations

(Atlanta) Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture Gary W. Black has applauded two more nominations of top USDA officials. Ted McKinney of Indiana has been nominated for USDA’s first ever Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs. The position was created in May as directed by the 2014 Farm Bill. Dr. Sam Clovis has been appointed to serve as Undersecretary for Research, Education and Economics.

“I know both of these men personally, and feel confident in their passion and ability to lead agriculture in these very important sectors,” Commissioner Black said. “Both Under Secretary positions will prove vital as we strive to move agriculture forward during this very crucial time.”

Ted McKinney was sworn in as director of the Indiana Department of Agriculture (ISDA) in January 2014 by then Governor Mike Pence. Prior to his leadership at ISDA, McKinney was the Director of Global Corporate Affairs for Elanco Animal Health. McKinney grew up on a family grain and livestock farm in Tipton, Indiana and earned a degree in Agricultural Economics from Purdue University. Dr. Sam Clovis was formerly a tenured professor of economics at Morningside College.
