Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Gary W. Black officially launched the Georgia Grown Executive Chef Program during the annual Taste of Georgia Legislative Reception held earlier this month in Atlanta.
“We are so excited to partner with the Georgia Restaurant Association and debut this program for our state’s culinary community,” said Black. “The opportunity to work with these incredible chefs throughout the year will mean great things for Georgia and we look forward to showcasing the availability and uses for quality, local products throughout the cooking seasons.”
The chefs participating in the inaugural 2012 program include:
- Holly Chute, Executive Chef, Georgia Governor’s Mansion;
- Michael Deihl, CEC CCA AAC, Executive Chef, East Lake Golf Club;
- Kevin Gillespie, Executive Chef, Woodfire Grill Atlanta; and
- Hilary White, Executive Chef, The Hil, A Restaurant at Serenbe
“In Georgia, our restaurant industry is second only to agribusiness in the number of jobs we provide,” said Georgia Restaurant Association Executive Director Karen Bremer. “That's why this partnership makes so much sense – we are highlighting the quality of Georgia Grown products through the outstanding talent of these local Executive Chefs.”
The program offers these chefs a mark of honor and distinction, while increasing awareness for both restaurateurs and consumers about Georgia products. As the program continues throughout 2012, it will create a conduit for consumers to find Georgia Grown in their communities in order to support local, seasonal foods when dining out. Each chef will participate in a spring and fall school event as part of public school culinary education and school food nutrition, in terms of increased opportunities for Georgia Grown products, training and recipe development. The chefs will also participate in an organized farm tour, at least one seasonal cooking clip with the Department and at least one Georgia Grown cooking event designated by Black.
