Georgia Department of Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin is alerting Georgians to the recall of certain Publix Super Market brand pastries which contain a milk ingredient that is not listed on the label.
Publix Super Markets is voluntarily recalling all codes of prepackaged 2 and 4-pack Apple, Pineapple and Pumpkin Empanadas sold in retail bakeries. Those with allergies or sensitivities to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
The recall affects products in the following Georgia counties: Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinnett, Hall, and Houston.
Other affected counties include Collier, FL, Lee, FL, and Davidson, TN.
"The packaging error was detected during a routine label review," said Maria Brous, Publix media and community relations director. “As part of our commitment to food safety, we routinely inspect our product labeling for accuracy and for product quality.”
There have been no reported cases of illness. Customers who have purchased the product may return it to their store for a full refund or replacement. Consumers with questions may contact Publix at 1-800-242-1227
