Spelt bread recalled for unlisted wheat

Georgia Department of Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin is alerting Georgians to the recall of two Food for Life Spelt breads because wheat is not identified as an ingredient.

People who have allergies to wheat or Celiac Disease may run the risk of a life-threatening reaction if they consume spelt products.  Spelt is a type of wheat.

Food for Life, Wheat Alternative Spelt Bread and Food for Life, Fruit Juice Sweetened Spelt Bread are sold frozen in 24-ounce light blue packages.  The 2,241 cases of recalled Spelt breads have the UPC#07347200168.  The affected lot numbers are H1847, H2042, H2136, H2435, H2872, H2974, H3224, H3460, I0485.

The Food For Life Baking Company of Corona, Calif., sold the products nationwide through health food distributors and natural food retailers.

Consumers who have purchased the breads may return them unopened to the place of purchase for a refund.  Consumers may direct their questions to the toll free number:  800-797-5090.
