Trace of peanuts found in some hazelnut spread

Thursday, October 22, 2009

Commissioner of Agriculture Tommy Irvin is alerting consumers with an allergy or sensitivity to peanuts to the recall of 65 cases of Kroger Hazelnut Spread sold in 16 states including Georgia.

The recall affects one lot of the spread packed in Italy with a March 2011 sell by date and UPC 11110-87825.

Testing of product from the same batch distributed under a different label in France revealed a trace of peanuts after two allergic reactions were reported.  No illnesses or allergic reactions from consuming Kroger Hazelnut Spread have been reported.

Consumers who have purchased the spread with the March 2011 date code may return it to any Kroger store for a refund.  The Kroger product is no risk to those with no peanut allergy.

Consumers with questions may contact Jim Uryga at 937-278-3533, ext. 102 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, Monday – Friday.
