Unilever issues wheat allergy alert for some mislabeled Breyers

Commissioner of Agriculture Tommy Irvin is alerting Georgia consumers to the Unilever United States, Inc., recall of a limited number of tubs of Breyers Ice Cream because it was mispackaged and may contain wheat.
The tubs contain Breyers® All Natural Cookies & Cream ice cream, but the package describes Breyers® All Natural Mint Chocolate Chip” ice cream. The lid does describe the product as Breyers®All Natural Cookies & Cream ice cream, but the tub ingredient statement does not declare wheat which is an ingredient of the “Cookies & Cream” product.
The affected product was distributed in 1.5-quart (1.41L) paperboard tubs marked with UPC # 077567254245 on the side and in combination with "Best If Used By” dates of FEB1711GH, FEB18GH and FEB19GH on the bottom.
People who have an allergy or sensitivity to wheat run the risk of an allergic reaction if they consume the product. No adverse reactions had been reported at the time of the recall. Several consumer complaints were made about the product containing wheat was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of wheat.
The company urged consumers who had purchased the mislabeled tubs to discard them immediately and contact the company at 1-877-270-7402 for a full refund.
The mislabeled tubs were distributed in 13 states, including Georgia, and Puerto Rico and Trinidad.
