Some imported golden raisins recalled for preservatives not on the product label

Friday, June 12, 2009

Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin alerts consumers to the recall of some imported golden raisins.

Indian Groceries & Spices, Inc., Skokie, IL, is recalling Nirav Golden Raisins because the product contains sulfites without listing them on its label.

People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

The raisins were sold in 7 oz. and 14 oz. plastic bags under the Nirav brand.  There are no lot numbers on the packages.  The 14 oz. bags have UPC 0 24433 01025 2 while the 7 oz bags have UPC 0 24433 01027 6.

The Nirav Golden Raisins were distributed to retail stores in Florida, Tennessee, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri and Ohio between January 6 and January 31, 2009.

All product purchased from January 6 through June 10, 2009 are affected by this recall.  During that period, the firm sold less then 6,000 lbs. of the raisins.

Consumers who have purchased these recalled Nirav Golden Raisins are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Those with questions may call the Indian Groceries & Spices Company at 1-847-674-2480.
