Bolthouse Farms voluntary recalls “100% Carrot Juice”
Georgia Department of Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin confirmed today that Bolthouse Farms, Bakersfield, California, has issued a national voluntary recall for its “100% Carrot Juice.”
Irvin and the Georgia Division of Public Health warned consumers Friday about the carrot juice after three cases of botulism in Georgia were linked to it. An additional case of botulism was connected to it in Florida last week.
The recalled carrot juice is distributed nationally to all 50 states, Canada and Mexico through retail stores. The affected products are labeled as:
"Bolthouse Farms 100% Carrot Juice”: sold in both 1 liter and 450 milliliter sizes
"Earthbound Farm Organic Carrot Juice", sold in both 1 liter and 450 milliliter sizes
"President's Choice Organics 100% Pure Carrot Juice" sold in 1 liter and 450 milliliters
“Use by Dates,” up to and including 11 Nov 06, are subject to this recall.
Botulism, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning, can cause symptoms of weakness, dizziness, double-vision and difficulty with breathing and swallowing. Consumers experiencing these problems should seek immediate medical attention.
“Discard the carrot juice if you have it,” said Irvin. Consumers with questions can call the Food and Drug Administration at
1-800-SAFE-FOOD or Bolthouse Farms at (661) 366-7205.
