Marietta grocer loses food preparation area
until safety issues are resolved, says Irvin

ATLANTA – Agriculture inspectors are working with the owner of a small grocery store in Marietta to clean up a roach infestation, dispose of spoiled meat and correct violations that are a threat to food safety, Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin said today.

“The roach infestation and high temperatures in the meat storage are serious violations,” said Irvin.

The Marietta store, La Pinata Tienda y Carniceria, 335 Pat Mell Road, has agreed to close its food preparation area  -- that includes a deli and meat market -- until the store’s cleaning and repair work brings the facility into state compliance.  Roach infestation has to be eliminated.

“Mr. (Guillermo) Diaz, the owner, is being very cooperative with our inspectors,”
said Irvin. “We want to see the store open and operating at full capacity as soon as they comply with state food safety standards.”
