“Put the car before the horse” says new equine commission chairman
The new chairman of the Georgia Agricultural Commodity Commission for Equine is urging drivers to put the car before the horse – the horse license plate, a new specialty tag that will raise needed funds for promotion, research and educational programs for the state’s equine industry.
The Commission met for the first time on September 19 in Atlanta to elect officers and begin the process of creating the license plate. Commission members elected Sue Vetsch of Newborn (Morgan County) as Chair and Jim Gibby of Cleveland (White County) as Vice-Chair.
“I am encouraging drivers, especially horse lovers, to put their car before the horse. We will need to pre-sell 1,000 license plates in order to make this tag a reality. According to the Georgia Department of Revenue 220 have already been sold, which is a great beginning,” said Ms. Vetsch.
The commission will launch an art contest for the design of the new license plate. Deadline for submissions of artwork is Friday, November 30, 2007. Contest rules are posted on the Department of Agriculture website www.agr.georgia.gov.
“I know there are many talented professional and amateur artists in Georgia who would like to see their design displayed all over the state for a great cause,” said Commissioner of Agriculture Tommy Irvin. “I am sure we are going to have some stunning entries.”
