Mexican cheese recalled due to Salmonella risk
MCP is recalling the "Queso Cincho de Guerrero" produced by "Quesos Sabrosos Mexicanos" because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.
Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the frail, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems.
Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody) nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis, and Staphylococcus aureus which can cause nausea, retching, abdominal pain, diarrhea and prostration.

The dry hard Mexican cheese comes in wheels of 35# to 40#, and is labeled as "Quesos Sabrosos Mexicanos" and was distributed between April 16 and June 26, 2007.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
The potential for contamination was found after routine testing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of Salmonella and Staphylococcus aureus in the Queso Cincho.
Consumers who have purchased Queso Cincho de Guerrero produced by "Quesos Sabrosos Mexicanos" are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
