Morgan County Future Farmers of America hosts
horse show to benefit state equine impound program
The Morgan County Agricultural Center is expected to be ground-zero Sat., Sept. 15, for members of Georgia’s Future Farmers of America (FFA) as the local club hosts a horse show to benefit the Georgia Department of Agriculture equine impound program.
The horse show will declare division ribbon awards in Beginners Western, Advanced Western, Beginners English, Advanced English, Overall Contest Event and Overall Fun Event to competing students.
“This is going to be a fun event. Our students and young adults are going to be able to compete against each other during the horse show but it is also going to be a learning process for many of them,” says Tim Savelle, agriculture teacher and FFA advisor, Morgan County High School. “We are excited about having the added benefit of donating the proceeds of this event to the Georgia Department of Agriculture horse impound program.”
Some of the events scheduled during the show include: ride-a-buck, pole bending, hunter over fences, barrel racing, stakes race, potato race, and costume contest along with 14 other events.
“We are pleased with the association. This is going to be good clean fun that promotes Georgia agriculture,” says Tommy Irvin, Georgia Agriculture Commissioner. “The proceeds from the horse show are going to help us to rehabilitate more livestock and help find new homes for many of these animals who had pervious owners who were unable to care for them.”
