Allergen Alert
Some Kamasi Sambirano dark chocolate bars
recalled for possible milk not listed on the label

Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin is alerting Georgia consumers today to the voluntary recall of Scharffen Berger Kumasi Sambirano 68 percent Cacao Pure Dark Chocolate bars.  The bars may contain milk without listing it as a product ingredient.

Consumers who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product.

The limited-edition Kumasi Sambirano three-ounce bars (no longer in production) are wrapped in distinctive green packaging.  They were sold via the Internet and nationwide at specialty retail outlets from March 2006 through June 2007.  All lot numbers of the chocolate bars are covered by this recall.

Artisan Confections Company, Berkeley, Calif., initiated the voluntary recall after a consumer contacted the company about an allergic reaction.  It was discovered that Kumasi Sambirano packaging did not reveal the possible presence of milk.

Irvin has instructed state inspectors to remove the product from retail and wholesale distribution.  Consumers who have purchased the item in question should contact Artisan Confections at (866) 608-6944.
