MB Article - Referendum Scheduled For Ga. Egg Producers

A 30-day referendum is scheduled November 1 – 30, 2006 for Georgia egg producers to decide if they want the Georgia Egg Commission to continue for another three years.  In order to be counted in the referendum, completed ballots must be postmarked no later than November 30, 2006.

The 1969 Agricultural Commodities Promotion Act stipulates that commodity commissions must be reaffirmed by a producer vote every three years.  A total of 66 2/3 percent of those eligible egg producers who return their ballots must vote in favor of the referendum in order for the commission to continue its programs of research education and promotion.

Any Georgia egg producers who did not receive a ballot may obtain one by contacting the Georgia Department of Agriculture’s Commodities Promotion office at 1-800-282-5852, extension 3678.
