MB Article - Ga. Equine Rescue League Donates Equipment for Dept. Equine Facility

The Georgia Department of Agriculture manages its equine impound facilities with the help of many faithful volunteers.  In addition to the daily feeding of large numbers of horses at the Mansfield, Ga., facility, there is much work involved in grounds keeping. Recognizing the facility’s need for the necessary equipment to maintain the grounds, the Georgia Equine Rescue League recently donated a new lawn mower and utility vehicle to the department to help ease the workload on the staff and volunteers at the facility.

“This equipment is greatly appreciated,” said Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture Tommy Irvin.  “On behalf of the department and the many volunteers who assist in our impound program, I would like to thank the Rescue League for their generous donation.”  Melinda Dennis, Manager for the Equine Impound Program, added, “These pieces of equipment will help us in saving valuable volunteer hours that can now be devoted to offering additional care to the facility’s recovering horses.  Many thanks to the Rescue League members who made this donation possible.”

Since its inception in 1993, the Georgia Equine Rescue League has donated more than $165,000 toward the Georgia Department of Agriculture Equine Program, and continues to support that effort.   GERL also has its own foster and adoption programs, and helps other groups and individuals in the work of ending abuse and neglect of equines.
