MB - Georgia's Historic Farms Celebrated in Perry

Shown above are representatives of the nine farms receiving awards this year: Burge Farm, Newton County; Stewart Family Farm, Banks County; Bargeron Farms, Burke County; Levans Farm, Carroll County; Jack C. Drew Farm, Grady County; McLendon-Tabb Farm, Miller County; Wilkes Farm, Mitchell County; Rogers Farm LLC, Tattnall County; and J.S. and Emma Bentley Farm, Terrell County.

 

The 2009 Georgia Centennial Farm Awards presentation was held Thursday, October 8, 2009, during opening day of the Georgia National Fair in Perry, Georgia.  The ceremony began with a luncheon followed by the awards presentation. 

This year’s keynote speaker was Commissioner Chris Clark of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, who discussed how the department’s programs and initiatives are interrelated with preserving Georgia’s historic farms. The Georgia Centennial Farm Program recognizes farms that have been in continuous operation for 100 years or more.
