Equine Health - Ring donations
The Equine Health Section Impound Facilities of the Department of Agriculture, like everyone else in these poor economic times, is struggling. Since there are no state appropriated funds to rehabilitate impounded equine, the program relies heavily on donations.
A one carat total weight diamond ring was generously donated to the Division. During the last few months, the equine health personnel along with volunteers, and the GERL have been taking donations for chances to win the ring. The drawing was held on Saturday May 2, the Georgia Equine Rescue League held the first annual Gene Ensminger Memorial Ride in Round Oak. Mrs. Ann Ensminger did the honors of selecting the winning ticket and the lucky winner was Wes Sullins from Cartersville.
Mr. Sullins attends church with inspector Courtney Farnon. “He was speechless when I told him that he had won,” says Farnon, “the only thing he could say was ‘I have never won anything!’” The total donations for the ring came to approximately $750. The money raised will be put towards the ever-increasing bills for the care of the horses at the impound barns.
