Equine Health - Donations

The Georgia Department of Agriculture’s Equine Health Section is charged with the duty of ensuring that
Since there are no state appropriated funds for the impound program, the department relies on the proceeds from the sale of the rehabilitated equines and donations from the public to continue caring for Georgia’s abused and neglected horses, donkeys, mules, and ponies. With the state facing profound budget cuts and donations down, the program’s future is uncertain as we reach an all time high in the number of cases reported and equine impounded. Therefore, we are reaching out in attempts to collect donations to help us overcome the financial deficit the impound barns face. The animals are in constant need of feed, hay, vet care, farrier care, and supplies required for daily management and housing.
The program accepts donations of services, materials, items that can be auctioned, and most essentially, monetary donations. If you can reach out and help the abused and neglected horses, ponies, donkeys, and mules of the State of

The Towne Lake Equestrian Club with their donations!
The Equine Health Section along with Commissioner Irvin would like to recognize several organizations throughout the state for their generosity to the impound program this holiday season. The Georgia Department of Agriculture’s Equine Impound Facilities have been fortunate to be the recipients of several charitable donations from the equine community. On December 7 during their end of the year banquet, the Kel-Mac saddle club presented Robin Easley, Field Supervisor for the Equine Health section, a check for $500 to be used for the horses at the Mansfield impound barn. The impound program has been fortunate enough to be deemed a beneficiary for Kel-Mac for the past several years. Thank you to Kel-Mac for your continued support and generosity.
The Middle Georgia Equine Network collected donations for the impound program and presented the gifts to Department employees, Adriane Cook and Robin Easley, and long time impound volunteers, Susie Bond and Tanya Kingsley, during their December meeting at Green South in Madison, Georgia. Thank you to the members of the Middle Georgia Equine Network and Green South for your kindness in giving to the horses at the impound barns.

Finally, hats off to the Towne Lake Equestrian Club and Tractor Supply of Woodstock, Georgia! The members of the Towne Lake Equestrian Club raised over $2,000 for the horses of GDA’s impound barns by featuring the horses in custody on an “Angel Tree” calling it “Hope for the Horses”. Supplies were purchased at a discount from the Tractor Supply in
Since there are no state appropriated funds for the impound barns, the program relies heavily on donations for the rehabilitation of the horses, donkeys, and mules that come through the facilities. It is because of the support and contributions from groups like these who share the love of the horse that the Georgia Department of Agriculture can give “Hope for the Horses” all year long.
