Symposium on the Proper Treatment of School
On June 16, 2008 a “Symposium on the Proper Treatment of Schools” was held at the Capitol Education Center in Atlanta. The purpose of this symposium was to educate Georgia’s Pest Management Professionals (PMP’s) in providing pest control treatments in schools that minimize exposure to pesticides, are efficacious and comply with all regulatory requirements. This unique training brought together speakers that represented the regulatory community, the education/extension service and the industry through the efforts of the Georgia Structural Pest Control Commission, the Georgia Department of Agriculture, the University of Georgia, the Georgia Pest Control Association and the Certified Pest Control Operators of Georgia.
The topics covered were:
1. Problems Found in School Treatments – Jim Harron, Georgia Department of Agriculture
2. IPM in Schools – Dr. Brian Forschler, University of Georgia
3. The Pesticide Label – Dr. Paul Guillebeau, University of Georgia
4. Safe Use of Pesticides in Schools – Dr. Dan Suiter, University of Georgia
5. Industry Perspective on School Treatments – Joey Harris and Chuck Carney, Cooks Pest Control
6. Panel Discussion and Questions – Speakers and Georgia Structural Pest Control Commission Members moderated by Jimmy Allgood, Allgood Pest Solutions
The presentations were archived so that PMP’s that were not able to attend the symposium could later benefit from this one of a kind training.
